WIMEK has a yearly call for research fellowship grants. The objectives of the WIMEK research fellowship grants are to strengthen the international collaboration with foreign research groups and to stimulate the scientific quality of research within WIMEK. Grants are meant for non-Dutch scientists from abroad who want to work for a short period of time (up to 3 months) as guest researcher in a WIMEK chair group (for example as part of a sabbatical) or for WIMEK fellows who want to go abroad for one to three months to work at a foreign research group.

There are 4 research fellowship categories. The first three categories are for researchers from abroad coming to WUR, the last category is for WIMEK fellows planning a research visit abroad:

  • A - Senior grants for international top scientists in a specific research area for a period of 1 - 4 weeks (often as part of a profiling workshop or conference). The research grant involves max. € 4.000 and can also include material costs related to the organization of a profiling workshop or conference.
  • B - Senior grants with a duration of 1 - 3 months of € 1.800 per month plus a contribution to travel costs of max. € 1.000 (based on expected real costs). The candidate should have a PhD title plus at least 3 years postdoctoral experience or must have shown long-term experience as senior scientist. This category also includes senior grants with a duration of max. 3 months meant to write an NWO Vidi application.
  • C - Junior grants with a duration of 1 - 3 months of € 1.500 per month plus a contribution to travel costs of max. € 1.000 (based on expected real costs). The candidate should have at least an MSc title. This category also includes junior grants for candidates with a recently obtained PhD title for a period of max. 3 months meant to write an NWO Veni application.
  • D - WIMEK fellow research visit with a duration of 1-3 months of € 1.800 per month plus a contribution to travel costs of max. € 1.000 (based on expected real costs). The budget is meant for WIMEK fellows, and thus not for PhD candidates or postdocs.

The 2027 fellowship call will most likely open end November 2026. The 2026 call is attached for more information. Actual funding of the fellowships is based on the real costs for travel and living, up to the maximum awarded.
