Accessibility and parking on campus

Summary

Information about accessibility and parking on campus for cyclists and motorists.

null

In general

The Road Traffic Act applies to Wageningen Campus. In addition, on the WUR grounds on Wageningen Campus, the WUR terrain rules apply. On the WUR webpage Accessibility and parking, you can also find the most up-to-date campus map, showing all parking areas.

Cars

On Wageningen Campus, you may only park in the designated parking spaces. Anyone may park in any space, with the exception of spaces reserved for specific groups (such as visitors, suppliers, and people with disabilities).

P1 to P3 are WUR's main parking lots. In P5 (Unilever), 240 spaces are available for WUR. To use P5, you must register, see below. From the WUR parking lots, it is a maximum 10-minute walk to a building.

If there are urgent reasons to park (temporarily) close to the building, please contact the building's reception desk.

The Road Traffic Act applies to Wageningen Campus. You may therefore receive a fine for illegal parking.

Several parking spots on campus also have charging stations for electric cars. In the article 'Travel and Transportation Options', you will find an overview of electric-car charging stations.

Bikes

To ensure that emergency services can access the area easily, you must park your bike in the designated bike racks. You will find bike parking spaces at (almost) all buildings on campus. Bikes that are not parked in the racks or in the designated parking areas may be removed. For more information, see the article "Rules and regulations for campus buildings".

Registering for the west entrance

Testing of the barriers is scheduled for the summer of 2026. Please keep an eye on updates via Connactions.

The west access route to the campus runs via the newly constructed road (street name: Akkermaalsbos), which connects the Mondriaanlaan to the campus. The road has been built on the site of the former bicycle path, located south of the bus lane. A new bicycle and pedestrian path has been constructed on the north side of the bus lane (under the Dassenbos area).

To prevent through traffic, this road is not accessible to everyone. Only registered vehicles are allowed access through license plate recognition, and barriers have been installed in both directions. The new access road will be opened in phases. Initially, only WUR employees will be able to use the road. At a later stage, employees of selected organisations and companies on campus will also be granted access.

Are you a WUR employee and would you like to use the west entrance? Make sure your vehicle's license plate is registered. You can do this yourself online via Facilities & Services Selfservice. See the FAQ below for further instructions.

Frequently asked questions west entrance

Where and how can I register my car for the west entrance?

WUR staff members who wish to drive onto the campus via the west entrance (Akkermaalsbos) must register their vehicle registration number in Planon. This can be done via the Facilities & Services Selfservice portal.

On the Self-service page, you need to scroll down a little; you'll find the 'Licence plates' tile at the bottom of the page. When you want to enter your licence plate, first click on 'edit'. You can then enter your licence plate and click on 'submit'. Once you've entered your licence plate, it won't appear in the field straight away. But once you refresh the page, it will be added. See also the screenshot below.

Each employee may register a maximum of two number plates. Please note: After registration in Planon, it takes 48 hours (two working days) to arrange access to the western entrance. When you register your number plate, you consent to your number plate and account details being shared with the software supplier. For more information, see the accompanying Privacy Statement for the western entrance on the right-hand side of this knowledge article.

Who can use the west entrance?

The process for granting access will take place in phases. Initially, the road will be open to WUR employees. In a later phase, employees of some other companies on the campus may also be able to use this route. Suppliers, students and visitors do not have access.

At what times is the road open?

The west entrance is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to registered vehicles.

Do WUR company vehicles and MyWheels hire cars have access to the west entrance?

All WUR company cars are registered in the system by the Facilities Department and therefore have automatic access.

MyWheels hire cars are not managed by WUR and are therefore not registered.

My car is already registered for the Unilever car park. Do I need to re-register it for the west entrance?

If your car's license plate already registered for the Unilever parking garage, you do not have to register again.

I've registered my car, but the barriers won't open. What can I do?

Once you have registered in Planon, it takes 48 hours (two working days) for your registration to be processed and for you to gain access. Please contact the Facilities Service Desk if you still do not have access.

Can motorbikes use the west entrance?

No, motorbikes cannot use the west entrance because the number plate is not on the front, so the number plate cameras do not recognise them.

Do emergency services such as ambulances and the fire brigade also have access via the west entrance?

Yes, emergency services use the bus lane and therefore already have access to the campus. They do not need to use the new road.

Why isn't the road open to everyone?

The decision to restrict access based on vehicle registration was made to prevent motorists from using the west entrance as a shortcut to Mansholtlaan (N781).

What data is shared with the software and barrier supplier?

Only the registration number of the registered vehicle is shared. No records are kept of how often a vehicle uses the entrance or who the driver is.

Has a data processing agreement been entered into with the supplier?

Yes. A Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) has been carried out, which has been approved by the Data Protection Officer, and a data processing agreement will be made. The privacy statement is attached to this article.

Unilever parking garage

The same registration procedure applies to the Unilever parking garage (P5). Access to the parking garage is based on license plate recognition. To use this garage, you must first register your car's license plate as an employee. You can do this via the Selfservice Facilities. On the page in your user tile, click 'Edit'.

Access pedestrian gate

For security reasons, the parking garage is secured with a pedestrian gate. After registration, you will receive a QR code for this pedestrian gate. You can save this code on your phone and scan it at the reader. Is the QR code not working? Call security via the intercom, and they will assist you.

Registering your license plate does not guarantee a parking spot. For WUR employees, there are 240 spots available in the Unilever parking garage. The sign at the entrance to the parking garage shows how many spots are still available for WUR employees and visitors.

Entry is permitted from 7:00 AM to 8:30 PM. Exit is permitted until 10:30 PM. Overnight and on weekends, parking is not permitted in the parking garage.

If you would like to reserve a parking space for a campus visitor, please contact the reception desk of the Omnia building at 0317-484500.
