Introduction
WUR has always has paid a lot of attention to and interest in the visual arts and has an art collection of more than 600 works. Many works of art relate to the research domains of Wageningen University & Research. The Special Collections department of WUR Library manages this collection, supported by the Art and Heritage Committee.
Outdoor art
On the Wageningen Campus, there are 38 outdoor artworks made of all kinds of materials, such as stone, metal, wood and concrete. Before the development of the current campus, the majority of the works of art were scattered in Wageningen and beyond at the former Agricultural College or one of the research institutes of the DLO Agricultural Research Department; now Wageningen University & Research. When parts of Wageningen University & Research were moved to the campus, many works of art were brought with them. The works of art enrich the outdoor space and are often seen by staff and students as a landmark or source of inspiration during a walk around the site. In the WUR Image Collections, you will find photos and descriptions of all the artworks.
Indoor art
The WUR buildings on the campus house almost 600 paintings, drawings and sculptures. The artworks in offices and meeting rooms are part of the Special Collections collection. They are placed in consultation with location managers or at the request of employees who would like to make their work environment a bit more personal, colourful or creative. Art in the workplace thus contributes to a pleasant and inspiring atmosphere. Some of these works are WUR heritage and show the history of research and education at the university. Other works of art are (sometimes indirectly) linked to WUR research themes.
Art and Heritage Committee
The Art and Heritage Committee consists of WUR employees with a strong affinity for art and heritage. The committee advises on the management, preservation and visibility of the collection, so that it continues to fit with WUR's identity and contributes to an inspiring working environment.
