Procedure and criteria

The Kickstart Social Fund aims to support open activities that connect students, organised by student groups or individuals. These activities should contribute to a diverse range of student initiatives and support social cohesion. We will pay special attention to allocating funding across a wide range of activities.

Who can apply

All student organisations can apply, as well as groups of students or individuals who are not part of an organisation. This combined target group is hereafter referred to as the ‘activity organiser’.

Target group (of activity organised)

The organised activities must be open for all students to ensure inclusivity.

What budget can we apply for?
  • Activity organisers can apply for a budget of between €100 and €1,500 per activity.
  • Each academic year, an organisation can apply for a maximum of three activities.
  • The budget can be used to make activities cost-effective or even free of charge.
  • The committee must approve their proposal and budget.
  • Approval of the budget will be communicated at least one month before the event starts.
  • After the activity, the organisers must report on how the budget was spent and receive funding based on their spending. The report must be submitted within one month of the activity ending.
  • Once the Kick-Start Committee has received the final statement from the organisers, they will process the refund for the organised activity.
Approval of the plan

The Kickstart Committee will approve plans based on criteria focusing especially on the quality of the proposal and the uniqueness of the activity. We strive for a diverse programme of activities.

Task Kickstart Committee and members

Lisa Nguyen and Rutger Kroes (Team Student Life, Wellbeing & Inclusion | SSC) are leading the Kickstart Committee, comprising a group of student assistants. The committee coordinates the process and decides on the procedure, criteria, applications and funding.

Most important quality criteria

Applicants must have a clear, concrete strategy, including a promotional strategy. The quality of this strategy is assessed in relation to the funding goal.

Other criteria that have to be met
  • Student organisations, associations or groups of students can apply for funding to organise new or existing activities.
  • These activities should be open to everyone, including students who are not members of an association or organisation.
  • Activities make fellow students feel welcome and at home in Wageningen.
  • They offer opportunities for students to get to know each other and strengthen their social networks.
  • The activity will encourage more students to participate in sports activities on campus or via student sports associations.
  • The activity contributes to the diversity of the programme.
  • It can be organised for a specific group of students with specific interests, talents or issues, but students cannot be excluded from this group because of who they are or what they can or cannot do (e.g. language, background or functional limitations).
  • The costs must contribute directly to the event's purpose of social interaction.
  • Costs to declare: Materials, facilities, transport, speaker fees, food and drink (max. £7.50 per person), etc. It is not permitted to pay students a volunteer allowance.
