Getting started

About the WUR Career Platform

The WUR Career Platform is your gateway to both academic opportunities and your future career. While the platform was originally designed to help students transition from university to the labour market, it now also serves as the central place to find MSc-thesis topics and MSc-internship opportunities.Currently, nearly 9,800 students and 1,500 employers use this platform. By combining thesis and internship opportunities with job vacancies and career resources, the platform provides you with a smooth transition from the final year of your MSc programme towards the labour market.

How to access the platform

Searching for topics and opportunities

Directly go to the page of your chair group

If you already know which chair group you're interested in:

  • Navigate directly to a chair group's page using this format: https://wur.jobteaser.com/en/companies/nnnnnn-wur-XYZ
  • Replace XYZ with the 3-letter chair group code (e.g., SGL, GEO, SBL). Or search for "WUR-[chair group code]" in the platform (see below)

To see only specific types of opportunities from a chair group:

  • Thesis topics: Add ?&contract=thesis to the URL
  • Internship opportunities: Add ?&contract=internship to the URL

Use the search options

First go to the 'Jobs' page

Then select, in the 'Contract' drop-down menu, select the type of course for which you are searching a topic:

  • Thesis ('Bachelor or Master Thesis)
  • Internship

Then enter a search term in the field 'Search by job, company or keyword':

You can also enter the code of the chair group for which you are searching a topic: enter WUR-XYZ, where XYZ is the three-letter code of your chair group:

Additional filters you can use

You can narrow-down your search results using a number of filters (select 'All filters' below the search box). Furthermore, you can save your search for later use (so that you can search with the same settings while possibly new opportunities have been posted.

The filters comprise:

  • Tags: Filter by domain area (e.g., Environmental, Plant, Animal, Food, Biotechnology, Health, Agrotechnology, International Development, Management-Economics-Consumer, Communication)
  • Start date: Find opportunities that match your timeline
  • Location: Most thesis work is in Wageningen, but internships may be elsewhere; some topics involve fieldwork abroad
  • Keywords: Search by topic, method, organization name, or specific interest area
  • Duration: Typically 6 months for thesis (36 EC), 4-6 months for internship (24-36 EC)

In case you search with keywords, you may encounter postings that were not posted by chair groups. In that case you can narrow-down your search by selecting 'Targeted jobs' under WUR filters (the WUR filters are either accessible in the menu (left of 'All filters') or are part of 'All filters' (depending on the zoom level).

What did you find?

MSc-Thesis topics: good to know

Types of Topics

Chair groups can offer topics in different ways:

  • Specific topics: Concrete research projects with defined datasets, methods, and timing
  • Research themes: Labelled as "Theme: ..." - broader research areas where you can develop a specific project in consultation with the supervisor
  • Suggest your own topic: many groups welcome students that bring their own topic or idea

Before You Apply

  • Verify the topic is allowed within your MSc programme. Some study programmes have additional requirements on the topics that are allowed for a thesis in that programme (check with your study adviser if unsure; see also article 21c of the Education and Examination Regulations 2025-2026 (knowledge article))
  • Ensure you meet the mandatory knowledge requirements (see the study handbook for the requirements for a thesis at a specific chair group)
  • Check programme-specific requirements for study progress before starting your thesis (see also the general article about MSc-thesis (knowledge article))

MSc-internship opportunities : good to know

Key information

Information to look for when evaluating internship opportunities:

  • Duration: Typically 4-6 months (24-36 EC)
  • Location: for an internship to be allowed, it must take place at an organization outside Wageningen University
    • for example companies, public institutions, research organizations, other universities, NGOs, etc.
    • you cannot do an internship in a Wageningen University chair group
    • you can do an internship in at an institute of Wageningen Research
  • Academic level: Tasks must be at MSc level with room for academic thinking and reflection (see the course guide for details on this)
  • Supervision: Provided by host supervisor (preferably MSc level) and WUR supervisor

Things to consider before the application

When you apply to an internship opportunity posted by a chair group, you may assume that a number of the requirements mentioned under Key information have already been checked.

In case you want to apply to an internship opportunity that was posted by the organization itself, please:

  • Contact your chair group's internship coordinator for approval before accepting any internship
  • Ensure the internship meets WUR's academic criteria (sufficient freedom for academic approach, work at MSc level)
  • Allow 3-6 months for preparation (even longer for internships abroad) (in particular to ensure that the internship contract can be arranged in time).

Application process

Each opportunity has specific application instructions. Typically:

  1. Click on the opportunity that interests you
  2. Read the full description carefully
  3. Check the application instructions (to find out which information you need to supply):
    • Simple application through the platform: no additional information is needed. However, the system requires you to send a CV (which needs to be uploaded in your profile); check if the chair group you apply at really needs a CV, or that an empty PDF would be OK as well)
    • Normal application through the platform: you need to supply more information than just your CV
    • External application: Some organizations have their own application portals; clicking the 'Apply' button will take you to the website of the organization
    • Apply via email: Contact the person listed in the description
  4. Prepare what is needed for the application (e.g. a CV, a motivation letter)
  5. Complete the application
