An important task of WIAS is to allow PhD candidates to develop themselves using a training and supervision plan, consisting of courses focused to reach professional, disciplinary and personal learning goals. To support PhD candidates in defining their personal learning goals, each new PhD candidate is given the opportunity to complete an online evaluation (Assessment) and to discuss the result with a Personal Development Coach. The Personal Development Coaches give advice to PhD candidates regarding their Training and Supervision Programme (TSP), the personal learning goals, and how to reach these.
PhD candidates meet their personal development coach preferably within 3 months after the start of the project to discuss the assessment results. In a second meeting, together with the coach and daily supervisor, the PhD candidate discusses their learning goals and the relation with the TSP.
