Information about supervision and teaching guidelines for PhD candidates

  • A PhD candidate can be involved in supervising a BSc or MSc student when the first plan of TSP and the research proposal/literature survey is submitted;
  • PhD candidates should not supervise more than 2 MSc/BSc students at the same time;
  • MSc students should work on a topic related to the PhD project;
  • The PhD candidate who supervises MSc students should be backed up by a staff member of the chair group;
  • Supervision of thesis students and teaching should be finished 3 months before the PhD project ends;
  • It is highly recommended to follow the WGS course “Teaching and supervising Thesis students”.
  • Any deviations from the guidelines should be discussed and agreed on by the supervisor and PhD candidate;
  • According to the policy of Wageningen University as published in the PhD Guide and online up to 10 percent of the total time of PhD candidates employed by WUR can be spent on teaching. For further details including guidelines for Bursary PhD candidates check Teaching duties PhD candidates - WUR.
