Not quite sure when to cite something? Wondering whether you should paraphrase or quote? You’re welcome to this relaxed workshop and pick up some practical tips to make referencing your sources a little easier.
Stress-free thesis preparation
This workshop helps you get more comfortable with citing and referencing. There’s no test, no preparation and no prior knowledge needed. You can simply come along, listen and learn. There’ll be no pressure; we won’t ask you questions or put you on the spot.
We’ll explore why referencing matters, how it helps you avoid plagiarism, and how to give proper credit to the ideas, words and images of others that you use in your work.

Who is it for?
The workshop is for WUR Bachelor’s and Master’s students working on an essay, report or thesis. This session is suitable for those who are new to referencing and those who would like a refresher.
What you’ll learn
By the end of this session, you will know:
- why referencing is important
- what to reference when writing your assignments
- how to construct references

Sometimes you have a question that is very specific to your own essay or thesis. In that case, you can get personal support from a WUR Library information specialist by filling in this form.
We can also help with things such as finding literature, building a good search query, choosing the right bibliographic database, organising your literature, citing your sources and understanding copyright. Depending on your question, we’ll either send you some useful information or arrange an appointment with you.
