Library Essentials in detail
Research data management
In this webinar, you'll be introduced to the concepts, best practices, and tools related to Research Data Management (RDM). We'll explore questions like: What is the difference between RDM, FAIR, and Open data? What is a data management plan? What constitutes good RDM practices? By the end of the session, you'll have a solid understanding of RDM and know where to find relevant information, support, and tools.
Open access publishing
This webinar provides a comprehensive overview of Open Access (OA) publishing at WUR. What does the OA policy of WUR and some major funders entail? Which OA options exist? How can you publish OA for free or at a discount? What are Creative Commons licenses? We'll address these and other questions and also introduce practical tools to publish OA.
Recognising questionable and predatory journals
In this webinar, we'll explore the rising concerns about questionable publishing practices and the grey area between responsible publishing and fraudulent behaviour. Why, at first glance, can publishing in these “grey area” journals be attractive? What may be the eventual consequences for you as a researcher and for science in general? We'll discuss common characteristics of questionable – and predatory - journals, and focus on tools and checklists to check the trustworthiness of a journal. After this webinar, you'll know how to recognise and avoid questionable and predatory journals.
Open education and copyrights in teaching materials
Did you know that you often have to deal with copyrights as a teacher? Does WUR stimulate the sharing and reusing of open educational resources? In this session, we'll discuss the basic rules for using copyrighted materials in Brightspace and what copyright aspects and licenses apply when sharing your teaching materials. We'll also show examples of open educational resources, databases and platforms for open educational resources. This Library Essentials session partly overlaps with the Start to Teach training.
Systematic searching for literature
You need literature for a literature review, for a systematic review or some other type of review. How to find the literature you need most efficiently? In this webinar, you will learn how to identify relevant sources, such as Scopus, PubMed or APA PsycInfo. You will also learn how to search these sources systematically and how to make well-funded decisions when setting up your search queries. We will also discuss tools that can help you screen and effectively select the relevant publications.
Discovering key library services and collections
In this webinar, you will explore the comprehensive and diverse services our library offers to support your research. Our tools and resources are designed to enhance your effectiveness and help you achieve greater quality and impact. Additionally, we will provide a brief overview of our collections, focusing on the most efficient ways to find relevant content.
Author profiles and impact analysis
Are you looking to enhance your research visibility and impact? Join us for an insightful webinar where we’ll dive into the essentials of managing your author profiles and analysing your research impact.
What you’ll learn:
- Optimise your author profiles: discover how to create author profiles (e.g. WUR website, Research@WUR and ORCID) that highlights your expertise and achievements, and choose which profiles you want to invest time in.
- Understand impact metrics: learn about key metrics such as citation counts and attention in policy documents and patents, and how to find relevant indicators.
- Practical tips and tools: get hands-on advice on maintaining accurate profiles and leveraging impact metrics for career advancements.
Artificial Intelligence in literature reviews
Artificial intelligence to speed up your literature review or systematic review is gaining more and more attention. Chatbots such as ChatGPT or Copilot can help you develop your search strategy and analyse the data from the literature. Some tools, such as Elicit, Consensus or Connected Papers can help you orientate on your topic, provide summaries, key references, an overview table or citation networks. Finally, specialised tools such as ASReview LAB or Rayyan have been developed for screening.
This webinar will provide you with tools on how to use AI in literature reviews in a responsible way. How do you get the most out of it? What should you be aware of? And what should you definitely not do? This webinar is intended for PhD candidates and researchers who have little to no experience with AI in literature reviews and want to explore the possibilities.
