What is WUR Library Search?

WUR Library Search is a discovery tool that covers the Library's collections and multiple databases. You can use it to find books, journals, articles, and other materials from the WUR Library. WUR Library Search shows the location of printed materials and provides links to the online publications and collections. You can also search the collections of other libraries in the Netherlands or libraries worldwide.

Where can I use WUR Library Search for?

You can use WUR Library Search to:

  • Find printed publications available at the Library.
  • Find digital books and journals as well as full-text articles, which you can access via this blue button:

  • Request publications from the closed stacks and Leeuw collection, or request publications from the open shelves in Forum Library (staff only) via the blue Get it! button.

  • Request publications from other libraries in the Netherlands (ILL) (staff and students only, charges may apply).

Please note that WUR Library Search works best if you already know what you’re looking for, such as books or articles of which you know the title and author. You can check if the publication is present in the Library or if you have online access to it.
WUR Library is not suited or intended for conducting comprehensive, systematic literature searches on a topic. For such searches, please use a bibliographic database, for example, Scopus or CAB Abstracts.

Book search

Simple search

By default, you search in the collections of the WUR Library via the simple search box.

  • The most effective way to find a known book, is to use a combination of author name(s) and (part of) the title.
  • Enter the name of (one of) the author and the title, or part of the title, between quotation marks. Omit an article at the start of the title. In many cases, the correct book will be among the top results in the list.

Example: You want to find: Köpke, U. (2019). Improving organic crop cultivation. Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing. In this case, you enter: Kopke “improving crop”, to find this book.

  • In the simple search box, you can use the index labels for author (au:) and title (ti:) to enhance the search results.

For example: au: enfield ti: language, gets 48 results.

  • On the search results page at the left-hand side, you can filter the search results by format and select Book to show only books.

  • You can also filter search results by author, local collections, databases to search, publication year, etc.
  • With the option 'Retain filters', you can save your selection for a new search.

Advanced search

In 'Advanced Search' you can use the search index to select an appropriate field and to combine search terms with the operators OR, NOT and AND.

You can consult Search in WorldCat Discovery for help.

  • Start a new search by typing new terms in the search box or by clicking on the logo Wageningen University & Research in the green bar.
  • Clicking on the logo will take you back to the start page.

Expand to Libraries worldwide or Libraries in the Netherlands

  • On the left side, you can expand your search to Libraries worldwide or Libraries in the Netherlands to broaden your search.
  • You can also limit your search to the Library’s Special Collections or the Leeuwenborch collection (Social Sciences).

Article search

The best way to find a known article is to use a combination of author name(s) and (part of) the title.

For example, you want to find this article:

Ratnadass, A., & Martin, T. (2022). Crop protection practices and risks associated with infectious tropical parasitic diseases. The Science of the Total Environment823, 153633. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.scitotenv.2022.153633

  • Enter the name of (one of) the author(s) and the title, or part of the title, between quotation marks.

In this case, you enter: ratnadass “crop protection practices”

  • By using the index labels for author (au:) and title (ti:), you will enhance the search results.

au: martin ti:"crop protection practices"

In many cases, the correct article will be among the top results in the list. You can refine your results by publication year or journal on the left-hand side.

  • If the article is available online, there will be a button 'View full text'. A link will either take you directly to the article or to a landing page for the journal on the publisher's website, where you need to select the correct year and issue to get to the full-text article.

  • If you cannot find the article you are looking for in WUR Library Search, it is probably not available online. The journal in which the article was published may be available in print at the WUR Library. See the next paragraph, Journal search, for more information.

Journal search

Search box

A journal can be found by its title or ISSN using the search box.

For example, you want to find this journal: Bioscience.

  • You enter the whole title (or a part of it) between quotation marks.
  • By using the index label title (ti:), you will enhance the search results. ti:"Bioscience"
  • If the results list is too long, you can use the format type filter to search for journals only.
  • You can access e-journals by clicking on the blue “Access journal” button

  • In many cases, you’ll get multiple links to the full-text. Check carefully which volumes of the journal are available in which database.

  • To find print journals, select print filter on the left-hand side.

  • Under availability at WUR Library, you can see which volumes are available at the closed stacks.

  • Journals are not available for lending but can be read or copied from in the library.
  • Click on the blue Get it! button.

  • You can request a specific volume. Please specify 'Item description(s)/Notes' in your request! Fill out Year or volume, and if possible, issue.
  • Staff can also submit a copy request for an article in this journal.

Journal A-Z list

Use the journal A-Z list to browse the alphabetical list to find a print or e-journal, or search for the journal title or ISSN in the search box.

Save & export your search results

On the top right corner of your found records, you will find three action buttons: 'Cite', 'Share’  and ‘ Save’.

  • You can use 'Cite' to export the results to EndNote, Refworks or RIS. There is also the option to directly copy a formatted citation using a style of your choice. Always double-check the reference yourself; WLS can sometimes make mistakes.
  • You can use 'Share' to copy a link to this result and/or to send the results by email.
  • Use the 'Save' button to save your record in the “Saved items” list in My Account. You have to be signed in (upper right corner) to use this feature.

Save your search query and set alerts

You can save your search query, for example, if you want to repeat it at a later time. You have to be signed in (upper right corner) to use this feature.

  • In the search results overview, the option 'Save this search' is available on the top right. Clicking on this link will save the search in 'Saved Searches'. You can save up to 100 searches.
  • You can set up automatic notifications for new results that match your ‘Saved search’ by selecting 'Create alert'. These updates will be sent directly to your email inbox.
